Why we make books

We wanted to put something good into the world, one book at a time.

The world children grow up in is wonderful: the sea, the hills, the animals next door. Featherland is made of that world. Much of a child's day now goes to screens, though, and families get less time together than they would like.

That's why we started Tiny Mighty Press.

An hour with a book is an hour together.

We make books to win some of those hours back. A parent reads a case aloud, the child stops to guess what happened, and the two of them talk it over before turning the page. Every case leaves something behind: patience with others, and the habit of asking what the other person was trying to do.

What we believe

  1. Every story leaves something behind.

The child finds it in what happened to someone else. The book says it out loud only once, later, in a single line.

  2. A pencil is all it needs.

Every page can be solved with a pencil and ten quiet minutes. Nothing to charge, nothing to log into.

  3. Nobody is simply bad.

Behind every problem there is someone who made a mistake, didn't know, meant to help, or needed something and couldn't ask.

  4. Look twice before you speak.

And laugh at yourself first. Our heroes get it wrong, fall over, and say so.

  5. One book at a time.

And slowly. A case a night is plenty.

Our books

We created The Feathered Detectives Club Collection.

Its detective is Sherlock Cockatoo, a pale blue cockatoo with a thinking cap who solves the small mysteries of Featherland, a town by the sea. Between cases come mazes, logic grids and Club tests, and a child who finishes them earns a place in the Club.
